We seem to always plan our lives out piece by piece, joy by joy starting at such young ages. Especially females - we like to plan out our perfect man, engagement, wedding and happily ever after - unfortunately, we don't account for the detours that God puts in our paths.
And yes, before you stop me, God IS the one who puts the obstacles, the curves, hills and forks in our roads and for good reason.
I can't even begin to count how many times I've gone through something and I've said to myself, "why? Why is this happening to me? To us?" "We're good people, we shouldn't have to go through these struggles or this grief." How many of you have asked those same things a time or eight?
I've detoured many times in my life for one reason or another. Whether it be a business opportunity or having to do with something personal in my life.
These detours, while they can cause us grief and bring us down a road filled with potholes and cracks, did you ever stop to think that maybe, just maybe, that's the road we NEED to take? While being 'down on your luck' or on one of these detours can be crazy hard and emotional, I realized something recently on my journey of endless side streets.
I've been knocked way down more than once in the last 3 years yet I've still given to those that too have been kicked down and need a boost back up. Yeah, I could've let it go and done something for myself with that time or money but they needed it more than me. What I learned this weekend was, people that have never had a detrimental detour in life can not fathom helping others just because it's the right thing to do. It's like they need some sort of incentive for doing good.
However, these detours can also bring us incredible happinesses! In 2020, I knew I needed a shift in my life, something needed to make me happier, to make me smile more, to give me a purpose. {and yes, mamas, you can have more than one purpose, but loving those babes is number 1} That July, Zyia Active came into my life and it's been one of the best detours.....so far. 😉
Our journeys, whether full of happiness or grief, will teach us enormous things! As long as we listen. Listen to why God DETOURED us somewhere else, not why this HAPPENED to us. Trust me, start listening and you'll be surprised by what you find.
