It’s Not About You

It's not about you!

I know that's hard for a lot of us to hear but there's also quite a few of us that NEED to hear it - myself included. I'm glad I heard it this morning by no coincidence, because, well, there are no coincidences.

It's been months since I went to church. My mom and I talked a little about it yesterday when we were together and I've mentioned that I've been pretty down and overwhelmed since the fire. While I was reading my book last night, which also could relate to my life right now(no coincidences), I decided something needed to change.

When I walked into church this morning, a new series was starting this week, anyone wanna take a guess as to what the topic was?? MELTDOWN. Today, we talked all about what can lead to a meltdown and how to manage them with God's help. Not a coincidence.

I thought I would share what I learned with y'all in case you're struggling as well.

Have you ever noticed that the majority of the time, your greatest meltdowns come when you've just hit an incredible high or had something wonderful happen? Those times when you're feeling on top of a mountain, when you're so proud of something? Those are the moments when we all seem to run and be so thankful to God for His help getting us to the top of that mountain. Fast forward a few days and something happens and you're knocked off that mountain for whatever reason. How many of you are running to God then? Those that are, are likely cursing Him asking why He let them fall. Am I right? God probably isn't the reason you fell and if He was, there's likely something he was trying to teach you. Try listening. He's there whether you're on the mountaintop or in the meltdown.

How many of you can say you've been there? 🙋🏼‍♀️ How many of you can also say that when it comes to a meltdown, you really don't know how to manage it? If you're like me and deal with anxiety and depression, it can be challenging for sure. Here are some tips that might be helpful:

  1. Grab a snack and get some rest. Physical health impacts spiritual and mental health

  2. Embrace silence and solitude. Be honest with God and let him be honest with you.

  3. Finish the work. Fulfill the calling God put you here for.

  4. Let go of control! It's not about you! Not everything depends solely on you. It depends on God - put it in His hands and let it go.

I know this was a bit of a different direction than I've been going in, but I hope this helps some of you in some way if you're struggling like I have been. Please feel free to share it as well if you think someone might benefit.

Also, thank you to Pastor Nikomas at Harvester Christian Church for always giving such a great message.
